THE SMELL IN THE AIR

December 21, 2009

what’s better in winter than walking on snow and listening to the squealing sound you make? it was really cold past days, but it felt so good shoveling snow and feel the chills while running inside and change trays of cookies in the oven. it smells of good days and i know it will be better to spend the christmas and new year rush in this little village than in the city getting lost in the crowd. and try out some more yummy recipes. and take time for friends. in between try to keep up with the work. i’m working on a seminar on émigré magazine at the moment and becoming even a bigger fan of zuzane licko. and on a new typeface and some other ideas. i have a good feeling. and occasional dizziness from the roalercoaster of plans i’m making.
again watched coffe and cigarettes by jim jarmusch. reminds me of all the little talks that can make your day. and saw andy warhol and annie liebovitz exhibitions in austria. they just remind you to always keep your eyes open and pick up ideas wherever possible.

day couldn’t possibly end any better, having good vibes in my head and limbo in my heart.

look what we have this year in our appartment in ljubljana instead of a christmas tree.

LIGHTS AND GOODIES

December 12, 2009

i attended the traditional swedish celebration of sankta lucia (saint lucy’s day) at the faculty of arts yesterday, where students of swedish lectorat organized short program, the singing, the big feast afterwards. lussekatter, kanelbullar, pepparkakor and glögg. all swedish goodies. aha, we should feel privileged to drink alcohol during the working hours. it was a nice ceremony, though not at night and not in sweden. procession usually takes place in church and lucy is heading it, wearing a crown of candels. lucy is bringing the light (on the night of 12th december – well, tonight) which protects you from the devil.

it’s always interesting to learn about foreign traditions, even though we tend to disregard and forget about our own. but these december traditions are magic. if only they weren’t wrapped with anxiety and all the fuss about them instead of the big red knot. like we have to prove ourselves over and over again. i’m decided i’m gonna make fruit tart. strawberries, plums and figs. mmm.

we finished third level of swedish on thursday and sang the lucia songs, christmas carols, but it all seemed so strange, cause there’s still no snow. i’m going home tomorrow, i’m patiently looking at the weather forecast, wishing to see nature at peace, hold that shovel and have walks in the forest covered with snow.

is there anything better in winter than watching the snowflakes fall? and while waiting, i still have bit more than two weeks to think throught and make a things-ive-learned-in-this-year list. good luck with yours!

WHERE IT ALL STARTS

December 4, 2009

i’m no longer a morning person. not this year, when i dont’ have classes. it’s just so good to slowly start the day. but even though, the getting up part is the hardest in any case. the warmth of the sheets …

in the morning, before even having my first cup of coffee, went printing. my sister’s boyfriend is leading  portal for the third life period called zlata leta (golden years) and we printed (screenprinting) the logo on some t-shirts. was nothing special, but it was good to refresh the working process. again got the chills and visualized myself in the future when i’ll be having a studio like that of my own.

december started. two-sided. chinese lanterns, honey cakes, grog. the tasty/good side. lonely feeling, red nose, no fireplace. the other side. but some things can be fixed. HERE. (thanks, anna.)
