i came across this great book the other day with help of anna. it was a special day, cause anna got her master title. anna törrönen, master of art. oh, she’s way much more than just that.

ruhe

i found this photo on friday when i got home and i could completely relate with it. when i sat on the train it was noisy for some time, until after few stops only me and bunch of other students were left, coming from a bit far distant “places”. it still is like when i was returning home in highschool every weekend and everyone was tired so we all just either stared through the window, read a book or slept. and it still seems such a great feeling, so different from the lively and busy city, where you sometimes just want to shut everything off. so at ease

You know that point in your life when you realize the house you grew up in isn’t really your home anymore? All of a sudden even though you have some place where you put your shit, that idea of home is gone. /…/ Maybe that’s all family really is. A group of people that miss the same imaginary place. (from movie garden state)

it’s probably true. hopefully i find my shelter before the feeling of belonging is gone.

a feeling, i take left

February 20, 2011

i was invited to work on a project, just did the small part of the whole, but still … the point is that i felt so much more useful as continuing with my postgraduate studies. so my shout goes out to all of you:

please let me know, if you catch any job offers (or maybe you have one) as i would like to change my life. i have the need to finally get into the process of working class (i know it probably contains the yawning and cursing about the paychecks and sometimes no morning coffee and no lunch brakes, but i think i’d be better off that way).

in exile

February 8, 2011

i attended a typographic workshop tipobrda between 30th january and came back on 6th february. we all learned that the best way to get work done is to isolate yourself, leave the city (okay, civilization if you want/although i think people are more civilized outside the cities). so in one week we all finished at least one weight of a new typeface. i started with the bold version and am on halfway to have the light version done. typefaces are varying from “the loss and agony over split up of the white stripes” to graduation project. mine is based on cutting off the overshoots which primarily create optical illusion of the same sizes of characters.

still if on the countryside i can’t just stay locked inside the house and work, especially if sun is boasting outside. and am really glad i had some of “my kind” of people there and we had walks around and a quick trip to the seaside. on whole: it was a great and creative week with bunch of delights. on the final day we printed posters and held a small exhibition, few visitors came but a great company! an exhibition is suppose to follow in ljubljana. i’ll let you know when.

comments on the typeface are really welcome

away

January 28, 2011

when times are tough and you cannot really do a thing to change them, i cling onto the good times i had. listen to music and work. and at the moment looking forward to the typeface workshop i’m attending next week.  isolated for a week in a small village, surrounded by new people. new acquaintances, new world, new knowledge, isolation. peace of mind or just clear head.

and if nothing works, watch saturday night live – best of jimmy fallon. guaranteed it’ll cheer you up.

January 16, 2011

year started so good it doesn’t seem real. the only thing missing is snow. don’t get me wrong, i love spring, but it’s january and i remember celebrating my brithday with friends on fields of snow. nowadays we tend not to complicate since it is difficult even getting all dear ones on one place. we got together for another celebration (had one every past three months) and few drinks.

and since it’s not that cold, we make little trips to surrounding hills. darn, it’s beautiful!! whether be it at night or day, magic every hour of the day. and i’ll be making my best to keep this energy going!

one day, twice THE day

January 1, 2011

[this is a post intruder, because i only got the photos few days ago.]

on 2nd december i received a student award for my graduation. few friends surprised me, coming to the ceremony. it was nice although i was sceptic about it because of previous “unappropriated” happenings. our celebration was short, wine, ice-cream. then lunch. and off we hurried to the opening of the printing shop i helped to move a week before.

on the last picture you can see mr. marko drpić, great man responsible for printing shop becoming reality. all events, workshops and other news (soon) at tiporenesansa

good, better

December 27, 2010

it was a good year! especially the last half. i’m starting to get better at things, it’s good to notice progress in any way – may it be personal relations, learning process (well, yeah, that one is immense, but still), recipes, loving all seasons. to conclude the year i have to make an extra bookshelf and another one for cds. that’s on my to-do list among other things waiting in line for realization during the holidays. and sure, as every year, i also take advantage of this time to make cookies and watch movies.

thanks to everyone who’s been with me; from friends, mentors, school/roomates, thanks for all the trips, meets and greets, for concerts, for life lessons. cannot wait for future adventures to come! wish you all best*

merry time

December 4, 2010

came home for the weekend, look at the scenery i’m surrounded by. magic!

vienna was great, punch also, on sunday i joined a small group of people and we helped to move printing shop, the ancient way (like the egiptians were building pyramids. not kidding, but don’t have any photos to prove it yet). supposedly happy merry december officially started yesterday (they turned on the overrated lightning in ljubljana, all in golden and blue) and i received a student award for my graduation on thursday. great thank you goes out to my mentors, boštjan botas kenda and klementina možina!

it’s time to make cookies, have a cocoa. cheers!

kleine reise

November 27, 2010

we saw a great exhibition of frida kahlo in vienna yesterday (although the subtitles could have been a bit “bolder”, so you can read normally, cause it’s hard to read from distance, that is because otherwise other ten people that are looking at the same painting would punch you). and afterwards attended the opening of a typopassage exhibition (by bauer konzept & gestaltung) at a great place museumquartier. i guess we looked like landing from another planet so a nice monsieur stepped towards us. we later on “discovered” it was mr. erwin bauer himself. was a great pleasure!

all about the trip to vienna was fun! except i think they’re a bit overexaggerating with all this christmas/new year spirit already in november. we headed back to slovenia just in time when snow started there. and you can see before–after image below of the scene in ljubljana. (sorry, mobile quality of photos)
